• Mainville wins 2006 East Coast Junior
• Academy welcomes new sponsor
• Two junior clinics slated for July
• Countdown to the NB Junior / Juvenile Championship

THE LOUIS MELANSON GOLF ACADEMY’S JEAN MAINVILLE WINS THE 2006 EAST COAST JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
Jean Mainville, of the Fox Creek Golf Club and the Louis Melanson Golf Academy had an exciting 2 days of golf at the 2006 East Coast Junior Championship at Golf Bouctouche. Mainville competed with 99 of the top players from the Maritimes and Quebec for what can be argued as the most competitive junior championship of the New Brunswick golfing season. With many of the 12 Quebec golfers playing scratch or better, the East Coast Junior attracts a very competitive field of players.

After the first round of the 36-hole stroke play event, Jean Mainville was tied for third place after shooting a 3 over par 75. But Mainville rallied back on the second day shooting a 1 under par 71 for a two-day total of 146 and tying with Quebec’s Eric Jinchereau. Mainville and Jinchereau then proceeded to play a three-hole aggregate play off (holes #17, 18 & 9) and after 3 holes remained tied. The competitors then proceeded to the par 3 #9 for a sudden death playoff. Jinchereau’s tee shot landed him in the bunker to result in a bogey for the hole while Mainville continued his consistent play paring the hole and securing his spot as champion of the East Coast Junior Championship.

Jean Mainville has been a student of the Louis Melanson Golf Academy for 2 years. During Mainville's time with the Golf Academy he has been able to bring his handicap down to a + 0.8 from 5 last year. “Jean’s main improvements have been his short game along with his mental” states Louis Melanson. “Jean is one of the hardest workers in the game. He is deeply dedicated, there is not one second that he does not have a club in his hands.”

This marks the 8th year for the East Coast Junior Championship. The last New Brunswicker to win the championship was Darren Roach of the Riverside Country Club. Roach was also a student of the Louis Melanson Golf Academy High Performance Training. For additional information on the Louis Melanson Golf Academy High Performance Training click here. Thoughts going into the NB Junior :
I feel very good going into the NB Junior Championship.I am striking the ball well with my driver and my irons. The only thing that needs improvement is my short game. It is not yet up to par.I am working very hard on my putting to get my confidence back up,and hopefully make more putts.During NB Junior,it will be essential to hit good wedge shots, make some putts and play smart golf to have a chance to win the championship.

Thoughts going into NB Junior :
Well, it is my last year as a junior and the Provincial Junior is being held at my home course, Country Meadows. Obviously this should play as an advantage for me over those who are less familiar with the difficulties the Meadows has to offer. I have been working on things and I am feeling confident heading into the tournament. However there are plenty of great players and I know they have all been working hard on their games too and will be well prepared. It is going to be a lot of fun no matter what happens. I wish everyone the best of luck.
